Dr. Juan Garcia,
Dr. Garcia is one of the original co-founders of ICSI (founded in 2011) and now serves as its Executive Director. As the last remaining co-founder still with the organization, Dr. Garcia has guided ICSI’s growth from its early focus on substance abuse and mental health counseling for women with children, to expanding services for men through the Fresno County Department of Probation, and later building collaborations with Centro La Familia Advocacy to support survivors of crime, domestic violence, and human trafficking.
Under Dr. Garcia’s leadership, ICSI became part of a statewide movement introducing
Culturally Defined Evidence Practices (CDEPs) in mental health care. ICSI’s signature approaches Atención Plena (mindfulness) and Pláticas (mental health and wellness literacy) have since evolved into programs implemented in diverse and innovative ways across the community.
Outside of ICSI, Dr. Garcia is a husband, father, and proud abuelo roles closest to his heart. He is also a mediator who practices mindfulness for spiritual liberation, and a writer of short stories and liberation poetry, currently working on memoirs tracing his journey from the Chicano movement to the present.
