SOMA Center for Early Psychosis Intervention

A Program by Integral Community Solutions Institute (ICSI)

Funded by the California Youth Behavioral Health Initiative and guided by experts from UCSF Department of Psychiatry and UC Davis School of Medicine, the SOMA Center provides coordinated specialty care for youth ages 12–25 experiencing their first episode of psychosis.

About SOMA

Everyone experiences symptoms of psychosis differently. These may include:

  • Changes in perception — hearing, seeing, or sensing things others don’t

  • Shifts in thoughts, beliefs, or emotions that feel unusual or confusing

SOMA offers personalized care and support for individuals and families navigating these early experiences.
Our approach focuses on early intervention, because recovery is possible when help is provided early.

Why It Matters

Psychosis often begins during the teen and young adult years—a critical time for education, identity, and connection. Through early support, SOMA helps young people stay in school, strengthen resilience, recover more quickly, and reconnect with themselves and their community.

Our Team

The SOMA team is made up of trained clinicians, a peer support specialist with lived experience, intensive case manager, & family advocate, a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, an outreach and education coordinator and administrative support staff this follows a Coordinated Speciality Care model, ensuring youth and young adults are provided with a strong care team.

Our Mission

At the SOMA Center, we walk alongside youth, young adults, and their families during the early stages of psychosis. We believe healing happens when the mind, body, and spirit are seen as interconnected, and when identity is celebrated rather than silenced. Our mission is to provide early intervention services that are trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and affirming of each person’s lived experience. By honoring the wisdom of communities, families, and youth themselves, we foster resilience, belonging, and hope.
